How Many New Cases of Childhood Cancer Are Diagnosed Annually in Armenia

Approximately 100 new cases of childhood cancer are diagnosed annually in Armenia, according to the Ministry of Health. Currently, over 800 children are registered at the Yolian Hematology and Oncology Center of the Ministry of Health.

Recent statistics indicate that around 75 percent of children with this illness in our country are treated successfully. Since 2018, Armenia has been performing autologous stem cell transplants for children.

In 2023, allogeneic transplants were also performed for the first time in Armenia in cases of hematological malignancies.

The medical assistance services for pediatric oncology and hematological diseases operate within the framework of the state order. In 2023, 40 types of medications have been provided to children and adolescents with oncological and hematological diseases, including unregistered drugs in Armenia. Due to legislative changes, the Ministry of Health has been able to procure life-saving, unregistered medications in the country. The drug supply in 2023, according to the approved guidelines, amounts to 95 percent.
