How Does Iran Relate to the 'Peace Corridor' Project?
The Islamic Republic of Iran supports the implementation of the 'Peace Corridor' concept proposed by the government of Armenia. This was announced by the Iranian embassy in Armenia, responding to a question from Armenpress regarding Iran's stance on the 'Peace Corridor' project put forth by the Armenian government.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran supports the implementation of the 'Peace Corridor' concept because we advocate for the expansion of ties within the region. We consider the sovereign rights of the countries to be a fundamental prerequisite for any projects aimed at unblocking routes. We welcome a project that facilitates the possibility of Armenia's role in the system of dynamic economic ties in the region,” the Iranian embassy stated.
On the other hand, Iran believes that strengthening the North-South communication route of Armenia is of great importance, as it effectively ensures Armenia's development and its role in establishing connections between two significant continents and major economies through the activation of the strategic transit corridor from the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea.
Therefore, the Islamic Republic of Iran has announced its readiness for the participation of Iranian companies in the development of this axis. Our perspective is that this historic route should be reinforced as much as possible. The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes any project and initiative that can strengthen the strategic significance of the North-South road of Armenia.
Considering the easing of East-West connections, the 'Peace Corridor' project creates new opportunities for the development of the region and can serve as a guarantee of peace, security, and prosperity for the region's population. One of the requirements for establishing sustainable peace in the region is undoubtedly the development of ties between neighbors,” the Iranian embassy noted to the media.
