Armenia Ready to Be as Close to EU as EU Deems Possible: Nikol Pashinyan

The statements made by the President of Azerbaijan during an interview with Azerbaijani television at the beginning of January 2024 have been regarded as a blow to the peace process. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in an interview with the British newspaper The Telegraph.

“But that blow is not just an isolated incident; it started with the ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh, followed by the rejections of the Granada meeting, then the rejection of the Brussels meeting, and also the subsequent refusals of meetings,” he said.

When asked why the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan is being delayed, Pashinyan noted that the architecture and principles of the agreement have been agreed upon. “At the end of last year, we thought we were very close to finally agreeing on the text of the final agreement.”

When asked whether Pashinyan intends to lead Armenia towards the European Union, making it a goal, he stated that the Republic of Armenia is ready to be as close to the EU as the EU considers possible.

It should be noted that the complete interview will be aired tonight at 21:50.
