Radioactive Water Leak at Japan's Nuclear Power Plant

Employees at Japan's Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant have reported a leak of radioactive water within the facility. This was announced by Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO), the operator of the plant.

“Employees discovered a water leak from a pipe. The presence of radioactive elements has been recorded,” the statement said.

According to local media, the concentration of radioactive materials in the water is 22 billion bequerels, while the maximum allowable amount is 1,500 bequerels. It has also been reported that the volume of the leak is 5.5 tons. The water leaked from a liquid treatment facility for cesium and strontium, after which it seeped into the ground. As of now, there has been no confirmation of the water reaching the ocean.
