A Major Eruption on the Sun Occurred
This morning, a М6.7-class eruption occurred on the Sun. This information was reported by the Laboratory of Solar X-ray Astronomy of the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics at the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The report is provided by RIA Novosti.
The eruption lasted from 06:54 to 08:15 Moscow time (07:54 to 09:15 Yerevan time). The maximum brightness of the eruption was recorded at 07:38 Moscow time (08:38 Yerevan time). It has been reported that no magnetic storm is expected as a result of the eruption.
Solar eruptions are classified into five classes: A, B, C, M, and X, with X being the most powerful. It was previously reported that NASA's NEOWISE probe would exit its orbit in 2025 due to solar activity. WISE (Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer) was launched into space in 2009. Its initial goal was to map the universe using infrared cameras.
A year later, NASA shut down two of the four detectors on the probe as the cooling liquid on board ran out. After a few years of hiatus, the probe shifted its focus to monitoring potential threats to Earth from space, renaming the mission NEOWISE. Since 2013, the mission has discovered 215 comets and asteroids using the instrument.
