Decision Made to Arrest Suspect in Stabbing Incident at Mega Mall
On February 4, 2024, at 16:35, the Police of the Republic of Armenia received a report that an ambulance had transported a man, born in 1971 and residing in Yerevan, to a medical center with stab wounds to the chest and abdomen. The victim underwent urgent surgery.
It has been determined that the man sustained his injuries at the food court within the Mega Mall shopping center as a result of an attack by another individual using a sharp piercing object.
In connection with the incident, the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia initiated a criminal case on the same day based on part 2 of Article 166 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. During the investigation, the individual admitted to the hospital was recognized as the victim; however, it was not possible to conduct evidentiary and procedural actions with him due to his health condition. A forensic medical examination was appointed.
The scene was examined, and blood-like traces were collected. The contents of surveillance cameras directed at the scene were seized and examined. Several witnesses were interrogated.
As a result of operational and investigative measures, as well as urgent investigative and procedural actions, it was found that the perpetrator is a 36-year-old resident of Yerevan.
Based on the gathered factual data, a motion was submitted to the supervising prosecutor to initiate public criminal prosecution against the individual suspected of committing the crime under the first part of Article 44-155 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, which was granted. It was decided to arrest the 36-year-old man for presentation to the court.
The police were instructed to carry out operational and investigative measures to locate him and present him to the prosecuting authority, as well as to clarify several circumstances of interest to the investigation.
Note: A person accused of a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty through a legal decision of the court with legal force, as stipulated by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia.
