VIDEO: Residents of Collapsed Buildings Share Their Stories After Explosion
Residents of collapsed buildings in Yerevan's Erebuni administrative district are hopeful that rescuers will be able to bring their loved ones out alive from the rubble. One resident told Sputnik Armenia that at the time of the explosion, her husband and mother-in-law were at home. She was at work when she received a call about the explosion and quickly returned home.
Another man shared that he had stepped out to buy bread when the explosion occurred; his mother was inside their house.
The Director of the Armenian Ministry of Emergency Situations, Kamo Tsutulian, informed the media, "They are responding in the rubble. Efforts are underway to rescue them."
It is reported that the explosion happened on 34 Nor Aresh Street in Yerevan's Erebuni administrative district. Preliminary information suggests that the explosion occurred in one of the private homes due to a gas balloon explosion. Firefighters, rescuers, canine teams, and ambulance brigades have arrived at the scene, and they are using dogs to help locate those trapped in the debris.
Reports suggest that a man in a mentally unstable condition may have detonated his own home.
