Tesla to Pay $1.5 Million for Hazardous Waste Issues
The American electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla has filed a lawsuit regarding toxic waste at a global court. The company will pay $1.5 million, as reported by CNBC, citing a statement from the San Francisco district attorney.
According to the information relayed by lenta.ru, $1.3 million will be allocated to pay civil penalties, while $200,000 will cover the plaintiff's investigation expenses. Additionally, Tesla will be required to prove that it properly trains its staff and hires an impartial party to annually inspect bins at its facilities for five years.
As noted by the channel, the settlement amount is insignificant for the corporation. In the fourth quarter of 2023, Tesla earned a net income of $7.93 billion. Previously, several districts in California had sued Tesla, accusing the company of mishandling hazardous waste. The statement claimed that Tesla deliberately mislabelled waste and sent it to landfills. The waste in question includes paints and varnishes used in production, brake fluids, old batteries, antifreeze, and diesel fuel.
