Discussion on Azerbaijan-Armenia Interparliamentary Dialogue Platform May Take Place in Geneva: Chungong
At the end of March, discussions may take place in Geneva regarding the creation of an Azerbaijan-Armenia interparliamentary dialogue platform. This information has been reported by Azerbaijani media.
The Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Martin Chungong, has already discussed this issue with Azerbaijani authorities and expressed satisfaction with the response.
He noted that the IPU is aware of the recent developments in the region and, as an organization established to promote peace and security worldwide, sees the necessity in conducting discussions with the parties on how dialogue can help resolve issues that could lead to instability.
“We plan to invite the highest leadership of the parliaments of both countries for discussions. We believe in parliamentary diplomacy, which complements the traditional form of diplomacy conducted by executive authorities,” said the IPU Secretary General.
A meeting between the Speakers of the Parliaments of Armenia and Azerbaijan is expected to take place during the next IPU General Assembly (March 23-27). It is anticipated to be an informal meeting.
