Baku's Endless Demands Prove Only One Thing: Marukyan
Armenia's special envoy Edmon Marukyan has addressed Azerbaijani President Aliyev's new condition presented to Armenia on his microblog. "In March 2022, Azerbaijan proposed five fundamental principles on which the peace agreement with Armenia should be based, namely: mutual recognition of the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and inviolability of international borders of both states, and political independence from each other. An acknowledgment of the absence of territorial claims by the states against each other, and a legal commitment that such claims will not be made in the future. Refraining from threatening each other's security in interstate relations, from threats and the use of force against political independence and territorial integrity and from other circumstances inconsistent with the purposes of the UN Charter. Demarcation and delimitation of the state border, establishment of diplomatic relations. Opening of transport and communications, creation of other relevant communications and establishment of cooperation in other areas of mutual interest.
Despite these principles being addressed during negotiations, including publicly, Azerbaijan has been evading the signing of a peace treaty and continuously presenting new demands throughout the negotiations, thereby torpedoing the peace process. Yesterday, Azerbaijani President Aliyev stated that peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan could only be established after Armenia makes changes to its Constitution and domestic legislation, thus officially raising an entirely new precondition. As the saying goes, 'appetite comes while eating,' and these endless demands prove only one thing: Azerbaijan does not want peace in the region or to sign a peace treaty with Armenia, thus trying to fool the entire international community," Marukyan wrote.
