New Compensation Standards for Sergeant Positions in Armenia

Sergeant positions in Armenia will now be compensated based on new standards. The draft amendment to the law on the remuneration of public officials was approved during today’s government session.

Specifically, a salary factor of 2.44 to 2.96 has been established for brigade and battalion sergeants, depending on the length of service. In absolute terms, these factors translate to a monthly salary of up to 196,000 drams, not including potential increases from professional testing results.

This initiative does not refer to new ranks, but rather to new positions that career sergeants can obtain as part of the reforms in the Armenian Armed Forces. The possibility of forming a new, professional sergeant corps has been under discussion for several years. Representatives from the Armenian Ministry of Defense have held multiple meetings with representatives of the US Department of Defense on this issue.

Another change in the law makes the testing accessible to military personnel not involved in solving combat tasks.
