Brothers Threatened Ambulance Workers with a Knife: Investigative Committee Details the Case
The investigation into the case of two residents of Yerevan threatening three ambulance workers with psychological intimidation and unlawfully depriving them of their freedom has been completed, according to the Investigative Committee.
On January 16, 2024, at approximately 03:30 AM, a report was received from a 47-year-old ambulance worker regarding an attack on their team at an apartment on G. Mahari Street in Yerevan after responding to a call.
As a result of the investigation launched by the Yerevan Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee, it was revealed that the two brothers living at the mentioned address unlawfully restricted the freedom of the ambulance workers (two women and one man) who arrived at their apartment in response to the call, demanding that they save their mother.
Specifically, the 38 and 34-year-old brothers first made obscene remarks towards the medical workers, then forcibly pulled them into their apartment, locked the door, and threatened them with a knife, stating that they would not allow them to leave until their mother's condition was stabilized.
The two men have been charged under Article 194, Part 2, Clause 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia (Psychological influence (making threats) against a person or their close relatives, related to the performance of their state, political, professional, or public activities or duties) and Article 192, Part 2, Clauses 1 and 5 (Unlawful deprivation of freedom of a person or their close relatives by a group of persons, related to the performance of their state, political, professional, or public activities or duties).
Pre-trial detention has been chosen as the preventive measure against them. The investigation has been completed, and the materials of the case have been forwarded to the supervising prosecutor for confirmation and submission to the court.
The Investigative Committee again urges citizens to refrain from criminally interfering in the activities of medical workers engaged in their professional duties. Any attempt of criminal encroachment will receive an appropriate legal assessment.
