Ararat Included in Game of the People’s List of Europe’s Forgotten Clubs

Yerevan's Ararat has been included in Game of the People’s list of Europe’s forgotten clubs. The British publication has compiled a list of clubs that were once renowned for their greatness but are now either nonexistent or in poor condition.

“Matches in Armenia's top league today attract fewer than 500 spectators. During the glory years of the Soviet Union, Yerevan’s Ararat had a minimum of 25,000 fans attending their matches. Once, when they faced West Ham United in the 1975/76 European Cup Winners' Cup, 66,000 supporters were present. At that time, Ararat was the winner of the Soviet Cup, having triumphed twice in this tournament in 1973 and 1975. They were also the Soviet champions in 1973, featuring a number of notable players, including Arkadi Andreasian, Levon Ishtoyan, and Edward Markarov,” writes Gameofthepeople.

During Soviet times, the club's emblem featured Mount Ararat, which can be seen from all parts of Yerevan.
