John Kirby Clashes with Al Jazeera Reporter During Press Briefing

The National Security Council’s Coordinator for Strategic Communications, John Kirby, engaged in a heated exchange with Al Jazeera reporter Kimberlee Halkey during a press briefing. This was reported by Fox News.

According to Kirby, the "contention" arose while discussing U.S. actions in the Middle East. The reporter questioned whether President Joe Biden could strike Yemen without Congressional approval. Kirby responded that the American leader has that right under the Constitution.

Halkey countered, stating that the American public is clearly dissatisfied with the President's actions. Fox noted that this statement "irritated" the White House spokesperson, and tensions escalated when the reporter asked if Biden considers his approval ratings while discussing options for action in the region.

As a result, Kirby interrupted Halkey, emphasizing that Biden does not review polling results or take the political calendar into account; rather, he supports American troops. “Any suggestion to the contrary is offensive,” he concluded.

Halkey attempted to continue the argument, but White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre intervened, noting, “We will move on,” after which Kirby thanked her.
