Criminal Charges Filed Against Father and Two Sons for Injuring Paramedic

The Investigative Committee of Armenia is investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident where a paramedic was harmed by a group of individuals. On January 13, 2024, the police received a report regarding an assault on a paramedic in an apartment in the Norashen neighborhood of Yerevan, which resulted in the paramedic being taken to the Armenia Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

A criminal case was initiated following the incident, and investigators conducted an examination of the crime scene, interviewed several individuals, and recognized the paramedic as the victim. The investigation revealed that at 09:10 AM on January 13, a team from the ambulance service, including the injured doctor, responded to a call to provide medical assistance to a man in need at the aforementioned address. While administering care, the doctor instructed a nurse to inject a painkiller, which prompted the man's dissatisfaction.

The man refused the injection, demanding a different medication. Upset by the doctor's explanation regarding the inappropriateness of his request, he directed vulgar sexual insults toward the doctor. During the ensuing argument, the patient threw a chair in the doctor's direction, striking his leg. Subsequently, the man's two sons assaulted the doctor, and together, they delivered multiple blows to different parts of the doctor's body, causing physical pain and injuries to the head, neck, and other areas.

Based on the gathered evidence, the resident of that address and his two sons have been charged under the relevant articles of the Armenian Criminal Code. The investigation is ongoing.

The Investigative Committee urges the public to refrain from obstructing the professional activities of healthcare workers and attempting to intervene in any manner. Any instance of criminal assault will be subject to proportional legal consequences.
