China Deploys Warships Around Taiwan: Media Reports
China has permanently stationed four warships around Taiwan, which were deployed during exercises in 2022 following a visit by a U.S. representative. This is aimed at deterring any approach by U.S. vessels during peacetime and preventing unplanned situations from arising. This information was reported by the Yomiuri newspaper, citing several sources from the Japanese government. The report was relayed by RIA Novosti.
According to a map presented by the newspaper, the ships encircle the island from three sides—north, south, and east—leaving the coast facing China open. Additionally, one of the vessels is located west of the Senkaku Islands (Chinese name: Diaoyu Islands), which Japan considers its territory. Meanwhile, Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihisa Shigeaki did not comment on the situation during a press briefing on Monday.
