Penguin Storms Airport and Delays Flight
A flight at a New Zealand airport was delayed after a penguin ran onto the runway. According to UPI, the incident occurred in the capital city of Wellington, disrupting operations at the international airport.
The penguin dashed directly onto the runway just as an Air Chathams aircraft was preparing for takeoff. Airport staff rushed to the scene and were able to catch the penguin and relocate it to safety.
It turned out that the unexpected visitor was a six-week-old blue penguin, also known as a korora. The airport staff donated the penguin to the Wellington Zoo. The penguin was found to be hungry and weighed less than expected for its age. Plans are in place to rehabilitate the penguin and release it back into the wild once it grows a bit larger.
