Dire Situation on Vanadzor-Dilijan Road: 20 km Section Covered in Black Ice
On January 26, a state of emergency arose on the Vanadzor-Dilijan highway. According to Shamshyan, the cause is black ice on the road, which has made it impossible for vehicles, including trucks, to travel on a nearly 20 km stretch.
The police patrols of the Lori region, led by Commandant Armen Bejanian and Senior Inspector Arman Sukiasian of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, worked under tense conditions. They were joined by the operational group of the rescue service of the Lori region and firefighter-rescuers.
By the order of Arthur Zakaryan, the head of the Lori regional police department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, community police officers from the Taroni and Bazumi divisions were also sent to the scene for enhanced service. Thanks to the police, patrol officers, and rescuers, no accidents occurred in the affected area.
Only hours later did Lori Governor Aram Ghazaryan receive information about the situation, leading to his deputy arriving on site. The deputy attempted to contact the responsible officials of the road servicing company to urge them to treat the black ice with salt and sand. Meanwhile, drivers and citizens expressed their gratitude towards the patrol officers and rescuers, while directing their criticisms toward the road maintenance workers, using what the public referred to as “seven-point sweet words.”
