Danish Corporation Presents the World's Largest Container Ship Fueled by Clean Fuel

The Danish corporation «AP Moller-Maersk» has unveiled the world’s largest container ship, the 350-meter-long «Ane Maersk», which operates on green methanol and can carry 16,592 containers, according to Bloomberg.

The ship is set to make its maiden voyage in February and will sail between countries in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. According to Leonardo Sonzio, the company’s head of fleet management and technology, the corporation plans to conduct a quarter of its total freight traffic using clean fuel by the end of the decade.

To achieve this goal, the corporation, which handles one-fifth of the entire maritime freight volume, intends to progressively modernize its fleet by adding 25 ships operating on green methanol by 2027. This fuel is produced from both biomass, such as municipal solid waste, and hydrogen and carbon dioxide.
