Lars is Open for All Vehicles
The road through the 'Upper Lars' checkpoint from Georgia to Russia has been reopened for large trucks. This was reported by the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia's Road Department.
On the evening of January 21, the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars international highway was closed for large trucks due to snow from the Gudauri-Kobi section. 'Traffic on the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars international highway has been restored for vehicles with trailers and semi-trailers in the Gudauri-Kobi section,' the announcement stated.
Traffic in the Gudauri-Kobi area is operating in around-the-clock mode, only through avalanche protection tunnels. The military road is currently the only land route connecting Armenia to Russia and is periodically closed due to bad weather conditions.
