Snow, Blizzard, Closed Roads: The Situation in Armenia

The Rescue Service reports that there are closed and impassable roads throughout the Republic of Armenia. Until February 15, due to road renovation works, the section of the M-6 highway from Vanadzor to Alaverdi will be closed for buses and freight vehicles with trailers or semi-trailers between kilometers 38 and 40. An alternative route will operate through the city of Noyemberyan.

The roads from the 'Amberd' high-altitude meteorological station in Aragatsotn Province to Amberd Fortress and Lake Kari are closed. The roads from Stepanavan, Spitak, Bagratashen-Ijevan, and Vanadzor-Dilijan are closed for freight vehicles with trailers. The Gyumri-Bavra road, the Vardenyats Pass, and the turns of Dilijan are closed for freight vehicles with trailers and are difficult for other types of vehicles.

The roads from the Ashotsk region to the villages of Fantan and Jraberd are impassable for all types of vehicles. In Syunik Province, the stretch from Yerevan-Sevan from kilometers 24 to 39 (blizzard) and the road leading from M2 to the city of Jermuk are difficult for freight vehicles with trailers. The Saravan-'Zanger' area is also difficult for freight vehicles with trailers.

Snowfall is occurring in the provinces of Syunik, Vayots Dzor, Lori, Tavush, Shirak, Kotayk, and in the Aragats region, including the Vardenyats Pass, as well as in the cities of Sevan, Chambarak, and Vardenis. Blizzard conditions are reported in the Vardenyats Pass, the 'Chain Curves', and the Saravan-'Zanger' area, as well as in the Ashotsk and Amasia regions.

Regarding Lars, according to information from the Emergency Situations Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and the Crisis Management Center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia's North Ossetia, the Stepantsminda-Lars road is closed for freight vehicles. Drivers are advised to travel exclusively with winter tires.
