VIDEO: "It Looks Like a Shoddy Job, It's Ugly" - Avinyan
Seventeen tree pits located in unsuitable places on Mashtots Avenue have been closed, and new openings and expansions are currently being registered, reported Tigran Geghamyan, the acting head of the City Hall's Construction and Urban Improvement Department.
Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan responded that they have discussed and decided to plant new trees on Mashtots Avenue, which is to be filled with poplars. "The tree pits that were close to the trees and it was not appropriate to plant another poplar should be closed. Now, when it is said they will be closed, it means the tree pit as such will be replaced with asphalt, stone, or whatever is used for paving the sidewalk. After all this, why are there tree pits that have asphalt in them?" asked Tigran Avinyan.
Tigran Geghamyan clarified that they have discussed this, and since the tree pits can be reopened in the future and trees can be planted, they found it reasonable for it to remain in this way. "Can they be reopened if we are talking about established large trees, of which there is another pit one or two meters away, is it reasonable to plant trees in the next 10 years?" inquired Avinyan.
The Mayor also instructed to restore the sidewalk properly: "Last week I personally noticed this, and that instruction has been passed to the construction and improvement team, I think there has been a misunderstanding, and we will complete this in a very short time," added Yerevan Deputy Mayor Levon Hovhannisyan.
“It looks like a shoddy job: a tree pit made of boundary stones, with asphalt in it. It’s ugly, especially on Mashtots Avenue,” said Tigran Avinyan.
