New Security Management Unit to be Implemented in Prisons
The Ministry of Justice is proposing amendments and additions to the 'Penitentiary Service Law.' The aim of the project is to attract and retain qualified staff within the Penitentiary Service and to significantly improve the conditions of remuneration for the employees. This was reported by the Ministry of Justice.
Currently, the external security of correctional facilities and the internal security functions are carried out by two different units: the security support and the safety assurance services. Such a structure and the separation of functions create management issues due to the ineffective interconnection of the two units.
However, effective work in these areas is of primary importance for the operational activities of prisons, including external security, ensuring internal safety, and preventing new crimes and other violations within the facilities.
For this reason, it is necessary to establish a new security management unit in prisons, which will encompass the functions of the mentioned two units. This will enable the effective utilization of the newly established unit's personnel based on necessity, addressing both the external and internal security issues of the prison.
It is anticipated that individuals accepted into the security management unit for the first time will be considered certified after receiving positive assessments from training courses, and they will be entitled to a bonus. Initially, the security management unit will be implemented in the 'Sevan' penitentiary.
