Former Head of the State Revenue Committee Brought to Court by Ambulance and Wheelchair
The trial of former head of the State Revenue Committee, Gagik Khachatryan, has commenced. Khachatryan was brought to court once again in an ambulance and a wheelchair, accompanied by doctors.
Journalists attempted to pose several questions to the former official, who is charged in a corruption case. However, he refused to respond to any inquiries.
Khachatryan's lawyer, Yerem Sargsyan, stated in a conversation with reporters that his client's health condition is deteriorating, and necessary surgery can only be performed abroad. 'Gagik Khachatryan already has life issues; we have filed a complaint with the European Court,' the lawyer added.
The prosecution is requesting Khachatryan’s re-arrest. Meanwhile, the lawyer has appealed to the court to discuss the request for Khachatryan to travel to Germany for surgery.
It is worth noting that Gagik Khachatryan, a long-time former head of the State Revenue Committee and former Minister of Finance, is accused of abuse of official power and embezzlement of particularly large amounts of property.
