Ukrainian-Made UAV Strikes Target in St. Petersburg, Flying 1250 Kilometers, Says Ukrainian Minister
Ukraine’s Minister of Strategic Industries, Oleksandr Kamyshin, has announced that a drone strike targeted St. Petersburg on the night of January 18. The drone, which is produced in Ukraine, was able to fly a distance of 1250 kilometers, according to reports from Ukrainian media as cited by Meduza.
“We are capable of producing something that costs $350 and can fly to St. Petersburg on that night. This was made in Ukraine. Thus, on that night, we struck a target, and it flew directly 1250 kilometers,” the minister stated during the 'Deciding your tomorrow' discussion in Davos.
Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that air defense systems intercepted an aircraft-type drone over the Leningrad region on the same night. Remnants of the downed drone were found in the area of a petroleum terminal in St. Petersburg. One of the owners of the terminal expressed gratitude to the Russian military for their “brilliant air defense work.” The authorities of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region have reported no injuries.
Ukrainian media sources, citing their own sources, indicate that the attack on St. Petersburg was organized by Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense.
