The U.S. Imposes Sanctions on Russian Oil Tankers

The U.S. Department of the Treasury has expanded its list of individuals subject to sanctions against Russia. On January 18, 17 maritime vessels operating under the flag of Liberia and transporting Russian oil, as well as the shipping company Hennesea Holdings from the UAE, have come under restrictive measures.

The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Department of the Treasury clarified in a statement that restrictions have been imposed on the tankers HS Buraq, HS Esberg, Sensus, Mona, Nellis, Sara II, Uze, Aristo, HAI II, HS Arge, HS Everett, HS Glory, HS Legend, HS Star, LA Pride, Osperous, and Peria owned by Hennesea Holdings.

In December, the U.S. and other G7 countries tightened measures to ensure compliance with the price cap on Russian oil (set at $60 per barrel). The tightening of sanctions has been accompanied by the introduction of restrictions on shipping companies transporting raw materials from Russia.
