UK Reports Rocket Strikes Cargo Ship Near Yemeni Coast
The cargo ship Zogarafia, flying the Maltese flag, has come under attack near the Yemeni coast. According to Ambre, a company specializing in maritime security, the ship sustained minor damage after being hit by a rocket. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) also reported the attack but did not disclose details of the incident or the name of the ship. Greek Skai television reported that there were no casualties resulting from the attack, and the vessel continues on its journey.
“UKMTO received a report about the incident occurring approximately 100 nautical miles northwest of Yemen's Salif port,” the monitoring center stated. According to Ambrey, the vessel was located 76 nautical miles northwest of the Yemeni port. After the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the Gaza Strip, the Houthi 'Ansar Allah' rebel movement in Yemen announced that it would target Israeli territory and would not allow related vessels to pass through the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb strait until operations in the Palestinian enclave cease. According to estimates by the U.S. Central Command, since mid-November 2023, Houthis have attacked more than 20 civilian vessels in the Red Sea.
