Video: Those Gathering Like Flies Around the Tennis Court Issue Will Not Gain Any Dividends - Avinyan
The Mayor of Yerevan, Tigran Avinyan, addressed the renovation plan for the Circular Park during a procedural consultation today, highlighting various discussions that have taken place in recent days about it. He noted that the Circular Park is the only public space with a Small Center, and this area must be restored as a public park.
"The presented program is not a demolition plan for the tennis club; the Circular Park is the only prominent green area in the small center of Yerevan. Thus, restoring it in phases as a green public space is our priority and focus. The main project primarily concerns various restaurants, cafes, and pavilions that will be removed, making the area an accessible green space with innovative solutions. I have personally trained at the Ararat Club from 1996 to 2022; it is one of my favorite places in Yerevan, but this is not about our personal preferences, but about the public interest," Avinyan stated.
The Mayor assured that they will address the issue of the tennis courts, considering the interest in tennis in Yerevan. "The solutions here are very clear for us; the Ararat Club will definitely be given a space to continue operating, and we will ensure that this happens. We must guarantee that the project is implemented before the relocation of the courts; that is, we must have another suitable location for the club before we begin demolition work. As for restoring green spaces, various buildings must also be demolished in this area to return it to the residents of Yerevan. The noise around this issue has been significant, and all sorts of pseudo-experts have begun to address it, even reaching evaluations that this is corruption. To all those who gathered around this topic like flies to gain political dividends, let me say: it won't happen," he emphasized.
It should be noted that the city authorities announced that they are preparing a draft government decision to start reconstruction in the fourth section of the Circular Park, from Sayat Nova Street to Nalbandyan, and to demolish the tennis courts, declaring the area as a public priority interest.
