Pashinyan Proposes New Agreement to Aliyev

The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, is proposing to the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, to sign a treaty concerning the control of armaments. He announced this during a meeting of the initiative group of the "Civil Contract" party.

“In this case, Armenia and Azerbaijan will reach specific agreements regarding armaments and will have the opportunity to monitor each other’s compliance,” he stated.

According to him, Azerbaijan is, on one hand, saying that it wants to strengthen its army, while on the other hand, is complaining that Armenia is buying weapons from France and India. “In other words, what is the logic here? Should Armenia not have an army? If this is the perception, then the right of existence of Armenia is called into question, which is absolutely unacceptable. Every country has the right to possess an army. That’s why we say let’s sign a peace treaty so there is no possibility of war,” Pashinyan emphasized.

“Sometimes, when familiarizing ourselves with Azerbaijan’s proposals, it creates the impression that there is an attempt to have a document that would legitimize future wars. This is beyond reason,” he added.
