Intestinal Rod Bacteria and Parasitic Diseases: Activity of Dozens of Fish Farms in Armenia Suspended

The Food Safety Inspection Body suspended the operations of 14 fish farms in December 2023. This information was shared by the head of the agency, Armen Hayrapetyan, during a press conference.

Violations and discrepancies were noted only in the fish farms located in the Armavir and Ararat regions.

Some fish farms were found to have intestinal rod group bacteria and pathogenic Salmonella bacteria. Most of the suspended fish farms were reported to have the infectious disease-causing agents of Aeromonas hydrophila / caviae.

Additionally, several farms were found to be suffering from parasitic diseases such as diplostomiasis and ichthyophthiriasis.

Hayrapetyan stated that the operators of the affected farms have been given instructions and advice on combating and preventing diseases, as well as on carrying out regular disinfection procedures.
