New Scam Exposed: Russian Women Swindle Armenian Men on Tinder
In recent developments, a novel method of fraud has emerged on social networks, particularly on the online dating app Tinder, where Russian-presenting women and girls are reportedly scamming Armenian men out of their money. This information has been disclosed by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
Victims, primarily men of various ages who have established correspondence with these women, are lured under the pretext of going to the theater together, and are prompted to purchase tickets to their preferred shows. To facilitate this scheme, these Russian-presenting female scammers send fake links to the official websites of theaters operating in Armenia. Unsuspecting citizens who click on these links end up filling in their banking card details to purchase tickets, resulting in the theft not only of the ticket price but, in some cases, the entirety of their bank account balance.
The Investigative Committee of Armenia is currently investigating over 100 criminal cases initiated on the basis of fraud involving the use of computer technology. The committee urges citizens to acquire tickets exclusively from official theater websites and to utilize reliable payment services rather than third-party links.
