Video: We Must Leave the Previous Century Behind – Avinyan on Gender-Based Abortions

In December, 1954 children were born in Yerevan, including 988 boys and 856 girls. Over the course of the year, the birth statistics show a total of 15,606 children, consisting of 8,069 boys and 7,837 girls. These figures were presented during the operational meeting of the Yerevan City Hall.

According to Mayor Tigran Avinyan, while this appears to be a normal ratio, the number of boys is slightly higher. “The dynamic concerning selective abortion is positive, but I believe there is still a problem. From time to time, we must talk about this issue. The mindset that allows for gender-based abortions should be left in the last century; we should start the new year with a somewhat different way of thinking. Regardless of gender, everyone has the right to be born and to live, and, especially, gender-based abortions are wrong and go against nature,” he stated.
