Recruit Draft Soldier Arrested on Suspicion of Murdering Contract Soldier

A criminal investigation has been initiated into the murder of a contract soldier in a combat position. One person has been arrested, as reported by the Investigative Committee of Armenia.

The report from the military police of the Ministry of Defense states that on January 9, 2024, at around 06:20, a contract soldier, K.K., responsible for a combat position in the N military unit of the Ministry of Defense, was fatally wounded by gunfire from a firearm.

Preliminary information indicates that the gunshot wound was inflicted by a conscript soldier on duty at the time.

The military investigative division of the main investigation department of the Investigative Committee has initiated a criminal case under the first part of Article 155 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. An investigative group has been formed.

Based on reasonable grounds arising from the aforementioned criminal act, the conscript soldier has been arrested by the decision of the investigating authority.

The scene of the incident has been examined, and relevant expert examinations have been appointed. The pre-investigation continues. All necessary urgent evidentiary and other procedural actions are being undertaken to clarify the complete circumstances of the case,” the statement said.
