How the Ratification of the Rome Statute Will Help Investigate Azerbaijan's War Crimes: Minasyan Explains
The first step is to develop new legislation. Justice Minister Grigor Minasyan presented how the ratification of the Rome Statute will assist in investigating Azerbaijan's war crimes during a press conference summarizing the results of 2023.
According to him, the ministry has studied the experiences of several countries, including Georgia, and has begun drafting a package of legislative changes that should be adopted following the ratification of the Rome Statute.
"The first step is developing new legislation while working with international experts," Minasyan said.
Subsequently, according to the minister, Armenia's investigative bodies will be able to involve international prosecutors in the investigation. "By coming to Armenia and getting acquainted with the documents, they become part of that procedure, and in this case, Armenia is not alone in the preliminary investigation processes for these war crimes but involves leading international prosecutorial bodies," Minasyan noted.
