Armenia's Foreign Ministry on Mirrored Withdrawal of Troops from Armenia-Azerbaijan Border
The proposal for the mirrored withdrawal of troops from the Armenian-Azerbaijani border remains in effect, as stated by the Armenian Foreign Ministry in response to a query from Sputnik Armenia.
“During the negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the Armenian side has consistently advocated for the mirrored withdrawal of troops from the interstate border, and this proposal continues to remain in effect,” the statement reads.
The Ministry noted that the Republic of Armenia is ready to engage in discussions regarding its implementation as soon as possible. “Armenia has repeatedly emphasized that the mirrored withdrawal of troops should occur from the interstate border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, based on the latest maps from the General Staff of the Soviet Union,” it added.
The Foreign Ministry did not comment on which provisions of the peace treaty Armenia and Azerbaijan have yet to reach a final agreement on. Furthermore, the Ministry stated that it is essential for Armenia to mutually recognize the territorial integrity of both countries and urgently work towards border demarcation, based on the principles of sovereignty, legality, reciprocity, and equality.
