Armen Grigoryan on the Mirror Withdrawal of Troops
The Armenian side continues negotiations with Azerbaijan regarding the mirror withdrawal of troops, based on Soviet maps from 1974-1978. This was stated by the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, Armen Grigoryan, during a conversation with journalists after making a condolence entry in the mourning book opened at the Iranian Embassy in Armenia.
"Negotiations are ongoing, and we hope that we will be able to achieve success in this direction," Grigoryan said, responding to the observation that Azerbaijan had previously categorically said 'no' to the Armenian side's proposal.
Grigoryan did not wish to comment on what changes were made to the latest text presented by Armenia regarding the peace treaty, which Azerbaijan has responded positively to. In particular, Azerbaijan noted that there has been significant progress and that the latest proposal differs from the previous ones, with many points that are acceptable to them.
"We will discuss this later when we have clearer progress regarding the peace treaty. Negotiations are ongoing in the sense that texts are being exchanged. We hope there will soon be opportunities for more substantive discussions, and as a result, we will speak more definitively in public," he said.
Regarding the question of whether Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations are expected soon, Grigoryan noted that Armenia has expressed its readiness and is now waiting for a response from its partners.
