Public Criminal Prosecution Against Former Commander of the 2nd Army Corps of the Ministry of Defense
The former head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia, Haikaz Bagmanyan, is facing public criminal prosecution on charges of money laundering. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Armenia.
“On January 4, 2024, the prosecutor initiated a public criminal prosecution against Bagmanyan, who held various military positions in the Ministry of Defense from 1999 to 2017, including commander of the 5th Army Corps, commander of the 2nd Army Corps, and deputy head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia,” the announcement stated.
The new public criminal prosecution has been launched under Article 190, Part 3, Item 1 of the Criminal Code, adopted on April 18, 2003, for particularly large-scale money laundering amounting to approximately 251 million drams.
Previously, Haikaz Bagmanyan was also charged with concealing information related to particularly large-scale property and income subject to declaration (5 instances).
