Argentinian President Rejects Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping

Argentinian President Javier Milei has rejected an invitation to join BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa). This was reported by the Infobae portal.

“Javier Milei has sent official letters to Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin a few days ago, informing them of Argentina's decision to withdraw from the multilateral BRICS forum,” the publication states.

The head of state also informed Brazilian President Lula da Silva, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and South African leader Cyril Ramaphosa about this decision.

As noted by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Argentina has taken a pause on the issue of joining BRICS. Milei has repeatedly stated that he intends to focus his foreign policy on relations with Washington, rather than with BRICS countries. According to him, Buenos Aires should abandon the peso and join countries that use the US dollar as their official currency, as well as eliminate the Central Bank and several ministries to reduce the state apparatus.
