Mirzoyan on PM Pashinyan's Visit to Russia

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, explained Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's participation in the EAEU summit in St. Petersburg by stating that Yerevan considers the organization's activities to be effective. He responded to the question of why Pashinyan traveled to Russia amidst multiple criticisms directed at both the CSTO and Russia.

According to Mirzoyan, there have been and continue to be some issues that the Armenian side has raised, which pertain to bilateral relations with Russia and Armenia's expectations from the CSTO. The level of Yerevan's involvement in the CSTO’s activities, from the minister's perspective, is commensurate with the existing situation.

Regarding the EAEU summit, Mirzoyan believes that the Prime Minister's visit is legitimate. “You are unlikely to have heard us say that our expectations from the EAEU have not been met, as has been the case with the CSTO. We believe that the EAEU is working effectively, and Armenia has never criticized Russia in the context of the EAEU,” he added.

The Armenian Foreign Minister also deemed it simplistic to suggest that Pashinyan's participation in the EAEU leaders' summit signifies a rejection of deepening relations with the EU.
