Peace Has Never Been This Close, Says Alen Simonyan
Peace in the region has never been this close. This was stated today by the President of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, during a conversation with journalists.
"We are now closer to it than ever, and I am confident, as various options are being actively exchanged and constructive discussions are ongoing," he said.
Alen Simonyan assured that this is also conditioned by the statements of the Azerbaijani leadership regarding their recognition of Armenia's territorial integrity.
Regarding the unsuccessful meetings between the parties, the NA spokesperson did not deny that this is an issue but added that discussions have continued and will continue.
Speaking about the achievements of the past year, Alen Simonyan noted that the year is concluding positively in terms of both the peace process and the return of prisoners.
It is worth recalling that in 2021, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced his readiness to sign a peace treaty with Armenia. In March 2022, Baku presented a 5-point proposal to Yerevan regarding the normalization of relations. The Armenian side made additional adjustments and sent its version. Since then, there have been several rounds of negotiations between the parties at various levels.
