VIDEO: We Will Try to Keep the Civil Contract Party's Hand Out of Citizens' Pockets. Armenians Are Not Material for Fines - Hayrapetyan
During today’s session of Yerevan City Council, the agenda includes a draft amendment regarding local taxes and fees, which proposes to increase parking fees in the city center from 12,000 drams to 160,000 drams.
The City Council's 'Mother Armenia' faction is holding a protest in front of the City Hall against the proposed price increase before the session starts. If opposition factions do not attend the session in full, there will be no quorum, and the session will be disrupted.
The ruling 'Civil Contract' party, alongside their coalition partner 'Republic,' holds 33 mandates, while the three opposing factions - 'National Progress,' 'Mother Armenia,' and 'Public Voice' - collectively hold 34 mandates.
Currently, a large number of police officers are gathered in front of the City Hall. In a conversation with journalists, responding to 'Public Voice's' statement that they had not had any discussions regarding a boycott, 'Mother Armenia' faction member Narine Hayrapetyan stated that they had notified everyone about the protest.
“They have been informed and are aware. Moreover, I will say that we attempted to prevent ensuring a quorum so that another betrayal would not be committed. Since 'Public Voice' has already betrayed the citizens of Armenia once by constantly shouting that they are in opposition while actually following Tigran Avinyan's lead. If you are not truly an enemy of the Armenian people, and you are not merely the opposition to Avinyan for personal gain, then do not enter the sessions and do not ensure a quorum,” Hayrapetyan highlighted.
She noted that they will try by all means to keep the Civil Contract Party's hand out of citizens' pockets.
