Armenian Cultural Heritage in Artsakh Undergoing Destruction, Desecration, and Appropriation: Deputy Foreign Minister

The Armenian cultural heritage in Nagorno-Karabakh is currently undergoing continuous destruction, desecration, and appropriation, and the international community must take urgent action. This was stated by Vahe Gevorgyan, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, during the Ancient Civilizations Forum in Tehran.

He noted that the use of force by Azerbaijan in September 2023, which led to ethnic cleansing of the entire indigenous population of Nagorno-Karabakh, has further endangered Armenian cultural heritage.

“The state policy of deliberate destruction of cultural heritage sites and distortion of identity poses a challenge not only to Armenia but to all of humanity. The seriousness of the situation demands urgent efforts from the international community,” emphasized the Deputy Foreign Minister.

Gevorgyan highlighted that Armenia supports the deployment of an independent UNESCO expert mission in Nagorno-Karabakh, which Azerbaijan has so far obstructed.
