Azerbaijani Human Rights Defenders Visit Former Nagorno-Karabakh Leaders Detained in Baku

The head of the Azerbaijani Committee Against Torture, Tural Huseynov, along with Vice President Elchin Shirinov and head of the legal department Rovshan Mamedov, visited former President of Artsakh Arayik Harutyunyan, former Prime Minister Ruben Vardanyan, former Deputy Commander of the Ministry of Defense David Manukyan, and former Commander of the Defense Army Leron Mnatsakanyan, who are unlawfully held in the Main Investigation Department of the Security Service. According to Shirinov, the purpose of their visit was to check the conditions of detention and the treatment of the detainees. “During the meeting, the aforementioned individuals expressed satisfaction with the conditions of detention. They noted that regular walks are organized for them, and provisions have been made for weekly phone conversations with family members. They are provided with necessary books, have access to a television and an electronic library, and can also use a gym. At the request of their family members, a lawyer has been appointed for them. Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delivered packages sent by their relatives,” Shirinov stated.
