New Rules for Deportation of Foreign Citizens Established in Russia
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law establishing new rules for the deportation of foreign citizens from the country. In particular, this law concerns the detention of individuals subject to deportation in special facilities.
According to amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses, stateless persons can be held in such places for no longer than 90 days. Furthermore, the document grants regulatory bodies the authority to substitute deportation with other penalties.
Foreigners may also be required to pay a fine of up to 50,000 rubles or perform up to 200 hours of compulsory labor. However, the imposition of such penalties is only possible if the court considers deportation as a measure restricting the individual's right to respect for private life. Another condition is the refusal of a foreign state to accept the individual.
The law clarifies that several factors will influence the decision on deportation. These include the foreigner's profession, family status, and income level, as well as the submission of documents for obtaining a Russian passport.
