Azerbaijan and Iran Foreign Ministers Discuss Relations Between Baku and Yerevan

The Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Iran, Jeyhun Bayramov and Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, have discussed the prospects for normalizing relations between Baku and Yerevan over the phone. This information was reported by the Press Service of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“During the phone conversation, the ministers exchanged views on issues related to the agenda of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran, as well as the current situation in the region and the prospects for the resolution process between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” the statement said.

According to Azerbaijan’s foreign political department, the ministers also discussed regional cooperation issues. Earlier, issues of regional cooperation were discussed by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi.

In particular, the parties exchanged views on the “3+3” regional platform (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia, Iran, Turkey), noting that the meeting held in Tehran was beneficial. The first session of the “3+3” group (actually a “five” group, as Georgia has not yet participated in the platform's work) took place in December 2021 in Moscow at the level of deputy foreign ministers of the five countries. Another session, this time with the participation of ministers from the five countries, was held in October 2023 in Iran. The next meeting is scheduled to take place in Turkey in 2024.
