VIDEO: Flooding in Thailand Affects 50,000 People
Heavy rainfall that began this morning in Narathiwat and Yala Provinces in southern Thailand has resulted in 50,000 people being affected by flooding. This information was reported by the Thai Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, as relayed by RIA Novosti.
As of 9:45 AM local time (6:45 AM Yerevan time), floods have been recorded in 13 districts of the neighboring Narathiwat and Yala Provinces, inundating 9,697 residential buildings (individual homes). In many areas, especially in Yala Province, flood depths reach one meter or more, according to the department's report.
As a result of the flooding, eight public schools have been closed for one or two days, with significant damage occurring to the first floors of the school buildings. A number of local intercity roads adjacent to Yala city, the capital of the province, are inaccessible for vehicular traffic.
Several sections of the railway lines operated by the State Railway of Thailand towards the south have also been submerged, leading to a temporary halt in train services on those segments, as stated in the report.
