Biden Approves Record Defense Budget, More Millions for Ukraine
U.S. President Joe Biden has signed into law the defense budget for the fiscal year 2024. The legislation includes record spending of $886 billion. Aid to Ukraine will amount to $800 million, the White House has reported.
"The law provides critical authorities needed to deter future conflicts, to build a required military, and simultaneously support servicemen, their spouses, and families who carry out that mission daily," stated the U.S. President.
He criticized provisions requiring him and other officials to provide Congress with reports and plans that would include classified information. Biden asserted that he could prevent the release of "overly sensitive information."
Previously, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken had announced that Washington's funds to support Ukraine were nearly exhausted. In the 2024 defense budget, $800 million has been allocated for these purposes. Most of the spending has been requested by the White House through a separate bill to be discussed by lawmakers.
