VIDEO: 20-Meter Tree Falls During Christmas Market, One Dead and Injured in Belgium
In the Belgian city of Oudenaarde, a 20-meter tree fell during a Christmas market, resulting in one fatality and two injuries, according to reports from HLN and VRT.
The tree, standing at a height of 20 meters and weighing approximately 5 tons, was located in the market area when a strong wind caused it to fall on three people.
A 63-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and later died from her injuries. Two other women, who were also struck by the tree, suffered minor injuries.
The mayor of Oudenaarde, Marnic De Meulemeester, stated that the tree toppled due to the strong winds. 'The tree was sturdy, but suddenly heavy rain fell, and strong winds began. As a result, the tree fell near the Christmas market, where many people were present,' the mayor said.
