Kazakhstan Constructs New Railway to China
Kazakhstan has begun the construction of a new railway to China, which will increase freight traffic between the two countries by 20 million tons. This information was reported by the press service of the government of the republic.
“Construction of the new 272 km long Bakhti-Ayagoz railway line has started in the Abai region,” the statement said. Authorities expect that the new line will increase freight traffic between Kazakhstan and China from the current 28 million tons to approximately 48 million tons, alleviate congestion at southern crossings, and attract additional transit volumes.
The bilateral railway is expected to be operational by 2027. During the construction, 11 stations, 47 bridges, 23 railway and 8 road crossings, 5 pedestrian bridges, and 16 observation structures will be built.
