This is an Obvious Attack on Finland's Sovereignty, Says Prime Minister
Finland's Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has stated that the flow of refugees at the Russian border constitutes an attack on Finland's sovereignty. This was reported by Yle and relayed by gazeta.ru.
"This is an obvious attack on the sovereignty of Finland and the European Union, on our borders," Orpo declared. He noted that the influx of refugees was unprecedented for Finland. Moreover, he insists that "this is an organized activity involving the authorities of another country."
Earlier, it was revealed that Finland is closing its border with Russia once again. The ‘Vaalimaa’ and ‘Niirala’ checkpoints ceased operations on the evening of December 15, just one day after reopening. The reason cited was the resumption of the influx of refugees, which the Finnish Ministry of the Interior has linked to the influence of a foreign power.
On December 16, Finnish border guards described the situation at the largest checkpoint with Russia, Vaalimaa, as calm following the closure of the border between the states.
